Women Empowerment
The discrimination women face in all spheres of life is an undeniable truth. It’s time we took steps to empower our women politically, socially economically. There can be no equitable society without gender equality.
“One woman raped every fifteen minutes in India” – NCRB, 2019
Feminine hygiene products like sanitary napkins are levied a GST tax of 12% with no consultation with actual stake-holders, who are women.
These are some of the hard facts that we cannot deny. This serves as a clear indication of a larger problem in our society. There are not enough women elected representatives making laws, debating laws concerning over 50% of the Indian population, which happen to be women.
It is with this vision in mind that Sri Rahul Gandhi rightfully put his weight behind the Women Reservation Bill. If the present dispensation shared the same concern, today India would be taking steps to eradicate the abysmal women representation in Vidhan Sabhas and Lok Sabha. A living proof of what women leadership & vision can usher in is evident at Panchayath and Municipality levels due to the reservation.
It is a proud moment for me to also let you know that Indian Youth Congress has already walked the talk and reserved more than 33% in state and national committees for women.
It’s time we joined hands and took steps to empower Indian women politically, socially and economically. There can be no equitable society without gender equality.
